Intoduction

In common with the theme of the festival this exhibition is concerned with issues of landscape, migration of individuals and populations, of tangible and intangible loss, of altered states of reality and of the potential for rejuvenation. Within the context of "Nomadic Reflections" this group of ten artists, connected only by their periodic dislocation from the place of their individual origins, have independently developed a personal perspective which both informs their art practice and allows each to make a statement relevant to the exhibition theme.

Of the three artists who have chosen to present works based in photography only one has opted to intervene prior to the photograph being taken. Of the other two the creative input is at the postproduction stage and in one case the entire photo representation was constructed in virtual space.

There are two works by artists who employ the use of the video, in part or as the totally of their installations. One presents an audience interaction piece which was created in the past the other invites audience participation in the here and now.

The remaining five installation are predominantly object focused whether assembled from recycled common place things such as bottles or from specifically made materials such as felt.

All of the work presented operates on many different levels of meaning in the conscious and the unconscious mind. They also utilise arrange of symbolic and intellectual devices in order to deepen the significance to, and engagement with the audience.

Where the subject of the work is the urban landscape and the condition described predominantly human if we look closely we can see the similarities with those of the environment at Bandirma.

The statements made by the each individual artist's offer an opening or a door way into the work, however as with all works of art you the audience are invited to bring with you and over lay your own experience perceptions and understandings.

This exhibition follows on from a series of exhibitions with connected themes, which were shown in three capital cities, the most recent in Ankara in April 2002. Two of the artists contributed to all three previous exhibitions, others have and will contributed variously to this rolling programme devised by the same curator.
